Best Lapotop in this price Range, July 19, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Gateway NV55S03u 15.6-Inch Laptop (Ebony Black) (Personal Computers) Alright so to start the windows performance scores for this laptop do not give it justice, be aware the processor rating does not include the Turbo speed of 2.5 Ghz. The 4 GB of ram is more than adequate, haven't gone above using 2 gb so far, and have benchmarked many apps so far. World of Warcraft ran at a respectable 45-60 FPS on medium settings, this was while doing Alterac Valley and other BG's. Overall this APU outperforms the new intel HD 3000 integrated chip, and with the turboboost speed will outperform many i3 and i5 intel models giving you the biggest bang for the buck. The point I will stress most is that this laptop at $450 is the best buy out there, you get a turboboosted 2.5 ghz chip, 240 stream processors with 512 dedicated video memory that is capable of playing WoW, CODMWF2, Crysis 2, and I will guarentee this laptop will play TOR once it comes out because MMO's have to be playable on everything from low to high end GPU's. Price, performance, and battery life were my main concerns when I was considering this laptop.
The Windows Experience Index (WEI) score for this laptop is:
Processor: 5.3
Memory (RAM): 5.9
Graphics: 5.9
Gaming Graphics: 6.5
Primary hard disk: 5.7
FYI, WEI scores was lower out of the box (I think, the Gaming graphics score was lower than processor). I reran the assessment and got the above scores.
My impressions after a month of use:
-Laptop looks great. (like a premium laptop)
-Glossy cover. It is a finger print magnet and scratches easily.
-When laptop lid is closed, there is a slight flex on the left-hand corner (the upper left corner when it is upright).
-Ports are located where they are supposed to be.
-The palm rest is comfortable to use.

Picked this one to upgrade from my 5 year old HP destop. I picked it mainly because it has a Radeon HD graphics card, and windows 7. Two things ive always wanted to try. The specs are really good, all around. I can easily play City of Hero's with no lag on recommended settings. I sometimes play on the faster setting just above recommended, but I get bit of graphic lag. I can play on ULTRA graphics setting, but I get lag. Its playable, but so much lag that its better I just play on the recommended. So its not an OVERPOWERED graphics video card, but its pretty dam good! Other than that, of course the laptop comes with some software. Nothing that takes forever to remove if you dont want it. And make sure to back up your system. It may take 3 or 4 DVD's, but its well worth it! You never know when its gonna go, better safe than sorry. But I see lots of promise in this machine.
